Eleven people were injured on Friday after a fire engine responding to an emergency call out collided with a car in Bedfordshire.

The car, carrying five people, was shunted against a wall after flipping onto its side in the collision on Friday morning. Two women, two girls and a man were injured, as well as a taxi driver and five firefighters.

All casualties were taken to hospital and the roads were closed while witnesses are called forward. “At this early stage our priority is the welfare of the people involved, however we will of course co-operate fully with the police investigation to establish the cause of this collision,” said chief fire officer Graeme Smith
