Ofsted and police investigate children’s injuries

Inquiries are being made into the “unexplained” injuries sustained by children at a day nursery in Nottinghamshire. Ofsted, the education inspectors, and local police have launched a joint investigation into the Rocking Horse Day Nursery in Plumtree.

Several children suffered injuries at the nursery, leading to calls to the police. The nursery has now closed while the investigation proceeds. Police said “Detectives are working with Ofsted to investigate the cause of unexplained physical injuries suffered by children attending the Rocking Horse Nursery,” (BBC News, 2009).

Five people have been questioned by police, and the nursery’s registration suspended, in “immediate steps to ensure the safety of children,” according to Ofsted (BBC News, 2009). The nursery in Plumtree is one of the largest of the company’s eight centres.
