Man dies in farm accident at work

by Macks Solicitors

A 34-year-old man has died in a tragic accident involving a potato harvester near Fife, Scotland. Keith Wannan became entangled in the machinery of a harvester at the farm where he was working.

Emergency services and an agricultural engineer rescued Mr Wannan by dismantling the harvester. He was rushed to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, but sadly died from his serious injuries.

A friend, Peter McKinnon, said “This tragedy will be felt hard across the area. These machines are expensive pieces of kit at around £70,000. He was very familiar with them. But something can happen so quickly,” (The Daily Record, 2009).

The Health and Safety Executive have been informed of Mr Wannan’s accident. The father of two was described as “a dedicated farming and family man… a very sensible young man, and very competent in his work,” (The Daily Record, 2009).
