Can I make a cycle claim?

If you have suffered an injury as a result of a cycling accident then you may be entitled to claim for compensation, even if you were partly to blame. If the accident was caused by the driver of a vehicle then you can claim from the driver’s insurance company.  If the accident was caused by an uninsured or untraced motorist then you are entitled to make a claim through the Motor Insurers’ Bureau – see our Uninsured and Untraced Drivers’ page. If the accident was as a result of a defect on the road, or a poorly maintained cycle track or path then you may be able to recover compensation against the local council or land owner.

At Macks we offer no obligation advice and guidance on your right to make a cycle claim call 0800 980 9390 or complete our online claim form. All cycle claims are dealt with on a ‘No Win, No Fee’ basis

Can you arrange for my bike to be repaired or a replacement bike?

We will act on your behalf to recover compensation not only for your injuries but also for your out of pocket expenses including damaged bike and kit.

We understand how important it is to you to have your bike repaired or replaced as quickly as possible.

Our lawyers will work to secure interim payments to cover the cost of:

  • Repairing or replacing your bike, including any customisations unique to your bike.
  • Replacing any extra equipment (including clothing) damaged during the accident.

We recognise how important cycling is to you and we work to make the process of getting you and your bike back on the road as quickly and as stress-free as possible.

Bikes are often badly damaged following an accident, especially if the accident involved another vehicle. Your bike may no longer be road-worthy. We can make arrangements for your bike to be inspected and assessed by a specialist engineer. If the bike is repairable we can make the arrangements and recover the cost from the other side’s insurers. If the bike is beyond economical repair then we can seek to recover the cost of a replacement from the insurers.

If repairs are to be carried out we will ensure that these are carried out to the highest standard. If your bike has to be replaced this will be with a bike model with the same specifications. If you prefer you can appoint your own local specialist bike shop to prepare a report and quote for repairs/replacement and we will request payment from the insurers so that you can proceed.

As many of our lawyers are keen cyclists we are aware of the importance of obtaining an early interim payment from the insurers so that you can return to cycling as soon as possible.
