The MID (Motor Insurers Database) replaces the previous Motor Insurance Database information system (MIDIS).

This database in effect allows solicitor members to pay for searches in relation to motor vehicles insurance details. The scheme provides a search procedure which is relatively straight forward providing solicitors with practically instant results in tracing insurers from motor vehicle registration numbers. The MID new scheme has been introduced to deal with the overwhelming number of requests they receive each year not only from solicitors but from Police forces.

It would appear on the whole the system is working well.
