The Foreign Office confirmed yesterday that a 19-year-old woman has drowned whilst on holiday in Kenya.

Siobhan Meadwell, from Wigan, was on a boat trip from Mombasa with her boyfriend on Tuesday when she got into difficulties and sadly drowned. Her boyfriend and three other Britons were injured, two being taken to hospital.

“Her next of kin have been informed and are being given consular assistance,” said a Foreign Office spokesman on Sunday (BBC News, 2009). The exact circumstances of the accident are as yet unknown.
