Shoulder Blade (Scapula)
The shoulder blade very rarely breaks but if it does it is usually as a result of violent trauma such as a road traffic accident. Dislocation of the arm from the shoulder at the site where the humerus (top of the arm) locates into the shoulder socket and is often the result of a sporting accident or fall.
Cervical Vertibrae
Whiplash is one of the most common injuries to the neck (cervical Vertibrae). It is caused by a violent backwards and forwards motion of the head. Often seen as a result of an RTA but may also occur as a result of slipping, falling or in sporting accidents. Fractures or displaced discs may occur in any part of the spine. The most serious injuries may result in loss of function of limbs and may be complete, with no function below the level of the injury, or incomplete leaving some degree of function. Damage to the coccyx is typical of a fall where the victim lands on the bottom of the spine.
